One such treasure is less than a year old, and I almost hesitate to recommend it so that it can remain one of my special secrets. In the North End, you will find several such hidden treasures once you leave the main tourist areas. Some of the best restaurants are located off the beaten path, away from the popular and heavily traveled streets. My restaurant review of Gennaro’s 5 North Square was published in this issue, and you will find a slightly different version below, what was originally submitted before being looked over by the editors of the magazine. The contents will span all across Boston and the first issue has now been published. I usually don't get citrus flavored foods, much less a cake, but I'm really glad I tried this because it exceeded all expectations! The cake part was the perfect moistness and the icing was fluffy and not at all overpowering or sweet. The former North End Scene magazine is now known as Scene Boston, and will cover much more than just the North End. Was on a pistachio martini crawl in the North end and stumbled upon this gem of a place! While I didn't end up trying their pistachio martini (yet!), I did order their tiramisu and limoncello cake which were absolutely out of this world!! I'm so serious when I say this was THE best tiramisu I've tried in my life so far! It was the perfect size (well maybe not because now I want more!), and just the right balance sweetness and coffee flavoring (usually I'm not a fan of coffee)! I could eat this for days and it'd still be craveable to me! And then I decided to branch out a little and try their limoncello cake. The cafe is cash only though, and make sure you're not in a rush since the wait times can get long. Overall, the drinks and desserts weren't too sweet which I liked, and the interior aesthetics made it a great spot to relax and enjoy a peaceful afternoon or evening. ![]() my favorite was definitely the shell, which was flaky and crunchy. dark chocolate dipped cannoli with pistachio dipping: just a subtle taste of pistachio that complimented the cannoli very well! the filling was soft and fluffy. Definitely would have been nice if there was another layer of lady finger though There was a very clear coffee flavor taste as well, but wasn't overpowering. tiramisu: their most popular dessert, the tiramisu was very creamy and butter soft, so much that I couldn't taste the firmness of the lady finger that I'm generally used to. ![]() caffe mocha: my friend ordered this and said it was a good blend of espresso and hot chocolate, not too bitter or sweet hot chocolate with whipped cream: seemed very intimidating given the massive amount of cream on the top but surprisingly wasn't too sweet! The hot chocolate was smooth and not watered down and the whipped cream added a tasty foamy texture My friend and I waited over 30 minutes for our drinks and desserts which can be a little frustrating but we weren't in a rush and it was worth it: It was evident that given how busy the cafe was, it seemed understaffed and all the waiters + waitresses were extremely busy. There are lots of seating/multiple rooms, but expect a bit of a wait since it's such a popular tourist spot. Came here the day after Christmas and wow this place really knows how to make everyone feel the festive mood! The entire cafe was decorated in holiday ornaments, lights and ribbons, with the dim lighting providing the perfect intimate and cozy atmosphere for customers who wanted to sit down for a warm drink and escape the cold outdoors.
